    Some time ago I had asked how to set a different icon for the Program Files folder.
    I received the advice to add a Desktop.ini to the folder. The ini file contained the following info:

    [.ShellClassInfo]
    IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll
    IconIndex=27

    For the several years this worked just fine, but now it will not work even tho the file still is in place.

    Can anybody help me get it working again?
    Win 8, Firefox 16.0.2, Thunderbird 15.0.2

    I normally right click on the folder, select Properties and Customize. Just tried it on this PC and I can change everything except Program Files.

    cheers, Paul

    On my XP desltop. I can NOT change the icon for the C:\Program Files folder.
    However, my applications are installed on a "D" partition under a D:\Program Files folder. This D\Program Files folder can have any icon as PT stated.
