Sometimes I have thumbnails of files in certain folders and in XP I was always able to click and drag them in the folder and they would remain where I put them..

Like, if I have 5 folders named 1,2,3,4,5 and want to move folder 1 and drag it and drop it after folder 5 so they would be 2,3,4,5,1 the folder 1 goes back to it's original place after I move it.

Am I stuck with this behavior or is there a way to be able to move them and they stay where you put them.?

Banya, all files/folders are automattically arranged in alphabettical order unless you state otherwise. If you want them shown in your preferred order, rename them

I agree with Roderunner, folders are organized both (1) numerically and (2) alphabetically. Rename them accordingly.

Well, in XP if I dragged a file in the folder it stayed where I put it but in Windows 7 I can't do that....It automaticly goes back to where you dragged it from.

    Banya,

XP and Windows 7 work differently in some areas. If you take a look at Roderunner's graphic, the More... beneath Ascending and Descending lists many more sort criteria from which you can choose. Once you choose and apply your sort criteria, it should stay that way until or unless you change the criteria again.

I think its 6 in one, half dozen in the other because Win7 has the neat little Tab key-next rename feature-ette....well, maybe its 7 in XP and 5 in 7 (not 7 of 9 (for those of you who get that)) because it sure was convenient to arange the files (e.g., photo-sets) in the desired order and then select them all and rename them all at once and then that could be used as the new sort order anywhere after that. I can't figure out why that was taken out of 7

I'll take 7 of 9.....That would get my mind off this stuff for awhile!

Gerald, I understand all that option stuff but in XP you could drag an icon or file anyplace in the folder and it would stay there until you used the sort menu..

I may d/l , say 10 files, and in XP I could drag each one as I d/l them to the bottom of the folder where I could then decide which ones to keep.

In Windows 7 you can't do that. It automatically mixes them in with the others...Then you have to SORT by DATE MODIFIED to get them at the bottom of the list...

It was a lot easier the other way that was available in XP..

And they ruined the Solitaire game too!...
