At present my laptop is more or less restricted to surfing the web, running share dealing and charting software and making free telephone calls. This is because Microsoft Works is useless and Open Office unsatisfactory.

Hence I was planning to purchase Office Home and Student 2010 for the family laptop, and to be ready for when my XP machine with Office 2003 has to be replaced.

However, reading what is included in Office H & S, a minimum requirement of 1024 x 768 resolution caught my eye. I find anything smaller than 800 x 600 a strain to read on a PC. There are a few sites where I have to use 1024 x 768 but I immediately switch back to the normal resolution. The situation is mitigated to some extent on a laptop, because one uses that on a lap or desk below eye-level, thus I am looking down and using the reading portion of my bifocals, but the small characters are a pain, espec. the icons in the task pane.

Can anyone confirm that Office 2010 will not run at 800 x 600? If so I will wait until the desktop PC dies and I have to struggle with tiny characters.

    Thanks

I just set my resolution to 800x600. Office 2010 opened. I do not like this size, but it works. I have a Sony Vaio laptop, Windows 7 Ultimate with Office 2010 Pro Plus. I hope this helps.

Thanks Ted. If it will open on your top end system I'm sure it will work with mine, so I'll go ahead and get it.
