I am using Outlook 2007. When I select CC: or BCC: the address list box is empty. I discovered the Outlook option to set the address list source but the list of options was empty. How do I find the address list file? If no address list file exists, how do I create one. Thanks.

    Thanks for the response.

Nearly 2,000 contacts. Most are in the main folder but I also have multiple other contact folders.

You should be able to go Contacts (1st in the attachment).

Then in the navigation pane right click on your Contacts folder in the "My Contacts" section and select Properties (2nd in the attachment).

Click on the "Outlook Address Book" tab. Make sure that "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" is selected. (3rd in the attachment).

    "OK" your way out.

Repeat for any other Contact folders that you wish to be able to use.

    Thanks.

Unfortunately both the checkbox and the text box (with "Contacts" in it) are both grey'd out and can not be accessed.

    The checkbox is not checked.

I am logged on in Windows 7 as an administrator but I did not launch Office with an elevated state.

If you click on Contacts in the Outlook menu on the left, do you see the 2,000 contacts you are talking about?

In 2003 you link the address book to the accounts by going to Tools-Email Accounts, under Directory, go to View or change existing directories or address books, click on Outlook Address Book, click Change and see if Contacts: Personal Folders (or any other address sources you may use) are listed.

Under Tools | Email accounts and Address Books | Directory |View or Change, do you have an Outlook Address Book of type MAPI enabled? If not add one through the Directory | Add part of the same menu.

I am using Outlook 2007. Can you describe how to get to these settings in 2007 (I think your description is for 2003).

How do I determine the format of my contacts file? 2003 vs 2007? Does it matter?

The standard procedure to include the contacts folder as an address book (Contacts Folder => Properties => Adress book Tab => "Check" Show this folder as .... does not work becasue that check box is blank and can not be changed. What causes that check box to be unchangeable?

Bill, through the menu that mercyh suggested, can you Remove and then recreate the OAB, and then set Contacts as your OAB? If not you will need to recreate your Mail Profile under Control Panel.

(By the way, did you upgrade to Office/Outlook 2007 using the Easy Transfer Wizard? It's notorious for corrupting the profile. Also, the format of your contacts file is not relevant to this problem.)
