I am considering purchasing Data Recovery / Data Rescue software. Does anyone have any experience with these products?

In particular I would like to hear comments about the following:

Digital Rescue Premium 3.1 from Data Transfer LLC.
    http://www.dtransfer.com/products/da...escue-premium/

Advanced Disk Recovery from Systweak Inc.
    http://www.systweak.com/ADR/

Recover My Files 4.6 from GetData
    http://www.getdata.com/

If anyone has experience with any other data recovery tool, please respond.

I do not recall ever using them, but if you would include links it may help someone else to remember.

There is a huge range of products. In some cases, you just need to "unerase" some files, while in others you need to restore corrupted files. It might be helpful to have a better understanding of your needs.

    My needs are two-fold

    1) I need to recover files from the hard drive of an XP machine. The files were deleted normally and then deleted from the Recycle Bin.

    2) I also have lost about 11 Gb of data from a flash drive. The File Allocation Table is missing and hence I cannot see any of the files. When I attempt to access this flash drive now, Windows 7 says it must be formatted before I can use it. The FAT dissappeared during a copy operation on an XP machine. I suspect recovery of this data may be beyond the capability of common data recovery software on the market, but some of this data is essential to me and I want to at least make an attempt.

If this clarifies what I am needing I would still like comments on data recovery software in general and the three products I mentioned above specifically. Also, if you know of other products that you believe may be especially appropriate for my situation, please respond.

There is only one data recovery product worth having - a backup. Buy a big USB disk and backup every day, including an image of the system once a month.

    cheers, Paul
