Hello--Secunia PSI says that Sun Java JRE 1.6.x / 6.x is insecure and I need to apply a solution. I have done this, but the warning still displays. I see in Windows 'Add-Remove' that there is an earlier version which I attempted to uninstall. After the attempt, a box popup that says 'Fatal Error during Installation'. I click OK, and everything goes back just as it was. The older version is still there. How would I manually uninstall the older version. I have done quite a bit of search on this subject, and so far, have been unsuccessful. My OS is Windows XP SP3 MCE. Browser is Firefox 3.6.10. Any help appreciated, and thanks for your time.

Hi Tom, Welcome to The Lounge.

Install Ccleaner, leave at default settings and use 'tools' to uninstall Java.

Next use 'Registry' to clean unused entrys (its totally safe) finally run 'cleaner' Hopefully Java can be fixed.

I have seen cases where all instances of Java need to be uninstalled before installing the newest version. You can also try Revo Uninstaller for this purpose then use CCleaner to finish the registry cleanup. As RR states you may have to do this from safe mode. It is somewhat unusual that Java will not just uninstall, but it happens.

Hello All--Thank you very much. I had never used CCleaner as an uninstall tool. I did as RR said, rebooted, ran a Secunia scan, and everything came out 100%. Thanks for your time and help. I appreciate it.
