Having some trouble getting stock quotes into Excel using smart tags. Found in my research that the symbols are in a .DAT file that Microsoft no longer "regularly updates" (KB289816). This means that newer symbols no longer can be obtained. Does anyone know of anyplace where an updated .DAT file is maintained?

    Thanks

Hi Dan - Can you give some examples of symbols that you would like Excel to find?
Have you tried the Excel Add-In MSN StockQuote?

Thanks Tim - I have looked for this MSN add-in but it seems that it is not available anywhere, none of the links were any good when I searched. In doing further reading it seems MS has yanked this add-in completely.

Examples of symbols need are MT, HFLAX, CHY and SSW.

Do you have a good link for the add in?

Hello Dan - Here is what I get with the symbols you gave. Does the info look correct to you?

Hi Dan - I am using Excel add-in for MSN stock quotes.
MS has decided to discontinue it. Mine is still working!! I like it a lot.
I believe the file needed is msnsq.exe

Here is a thread of discussions by disgruntled MS users.
Excel add-in for msn stock quotes no longer available for download, what happened to it?

Let me know if you get it to work.
