Any ideas as to why a forwarded email to a certain address always fails to be delivered, but sending a regular email to the same adress works?

One reason could be that the reply to address that is visible is not the address being used, but rather the 'display as' field.

The Thunderbird app is not on my computer but on an elderly lady I'm trying to help, so I don't remember the exact wording of the bounced email. It was something like "Mail deamon failed" (or similar) with a copy of the failed email address. However, the address is legitimate as she can send emails directly with no problem. I will investigate to see if the forward is using the "display as" address.
