I use Wake-on-LAN on an almost daily basis from my XP Pro PC at work, via WOLcmd from Depicus. (Other fine Wake-on-LAN programs are available, even one method where the WOL Magic Packet is constructed 'from scratch' in a Powershell script!)

I use a variety of BATch files (surprise!) working off a table of the MAC addresses of the NICs in each PC. Some of the older PCs don't support WOL, which is annoying, and it can take a bit of effort to set up the PC BIOS and the NIC's power management facility, but once done it's done.
