    I'm getting e-mails from various people that are unknown to me. they all look alike except the few letters will differ???

    These seem to be phishing attempts. I would simply delete them. Do NOT open them, simply the fact of opening may release a virus attack.

    As long as you have a recent / updated mail program you will not have a problem with viral infection if you open email. Mail clients are careful not to allow obvious exploits.

    I would take Ted's advice and just delete them.
