    Table of contents (98 SR2)

    Table of contents doesn't get produced: all I get is {TOC 0} which turns grey when I click on it.

    The steps I took to produce this marvel (as a test; not an actual document yet) were to type:
    heading 1
    heading 2
    heading 3
    with a page break between 2 and 3.
    With the cursor on "heading 1" I pressed Ctrl Alt 1, then 2 for 2 and 3 for 3.
    I then went to the very top of the doc, pressed Insert, chose Index, then the tab for ToC. I chose a format (Formal) and 3 for the number of levels, and pressed OK. It produced the string above.

    I tried pressing Shift F9. It showed the proper words (Heading 1, etc.) at the left and at the right, where I expected the page number, I got:
    {PAGEREF_TOC527035695H}

    Elucidation/instructions would be greatly appreciated.

    Isabel, you're viewing your field codes. You should be able to just hit Alt-F9.

    Thanks - it works! (I had hit Shift F9).
