wnad.exe

I just noticed problems with my machine running W2k lately with programs opening and closing slowly etc. I ran Norton System Works and fixed some problem areas, but then when I tried to run the Disk Doctor it said it could not fix errors because there was a process running. I discovered when rebooting my machine a message box came up and said there was a program running and it asked to "end task now". After rebooting When I did ALt CTL DEL this program was not running (at least showing in the task manager) , you can not see it in the task manager but when I go to shut down it seems to be running. Also when windows start locking up and working slow I notice the CPU usage is up to 100% and when I go to task manager under processes this program is running with cpu usage 99 to 100%. Have I picked up a virus or what is this? I tried the microsoft site and it does not have any info on this. I am running PC-cillion virus protection and update a couple of times a week. Can anyone help and let me know what is this program.

Hi
Are you running your virus scanner in the background? Also File Indexing and Office Fast Find often cause this sort of slowness.
Although MSConfig is no longer in Windows, there are many 3rd party apps that give you a more detailed picture of what's running than does Task Manager. This one was recommended recently in the Lounge. Click the Tab labelled StartUp.

Cheers

According to something read in another forum, this is a piece of spyware. Find it and kill it!
