Last week as I was playing a game I would suddenly, for about 2-3 seconds have a sound noise and disruption of the game where it would freeze. At first I thought this was the game itself until I was playing some 7-8 minutes movie clips and the same thing happened.

I have checked all my drivers for sound and they are up-to-date. Just to make sure, I downloaded the latest and install it.
The drivers for my video board which is the ATI 5770 have been downloaded and reinstalled.
On the sound I have decreased it from 24 bit, 48000 Hz to 16 bit, 48000, but no luck.

    Any suggestions?

None other than the old-fashioned swap components process of elimination. I had a similar hesitation, sort of double clutch that started every few minutes and it was audible in the sound system but nothing I did fixed it until I replaced the motherboard. I even updated the chipset drivers and more and nuthin' so if its hardware its probably only solvable by process of elimination.
