    For some time I have been getting the following security warning when I attempt to start a program with a shortcut (.lnk) file:

    [attachment=90362:Clipboard01.jpg]

    Even Microsoft programs claim "unknown publisher". An exception is if the shortcut is pinned to my start menu or taskbar.
    My most used programs are pinned so I have not really noticed this problem.

    I would appreciate any help.

    I am running Windows 7 64-bit
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
    4GB RAM

    Hi Jim, Welcome to the Lounge.

    If your shortcuts have a 'Shield' they always need permission, only the shortcut arrow, starts with no problem.

    How are you accessing the shortcut when it is causing a problem? I've been unable to replicate the behavior and have tried it on the desktop, the start menu, All programs on the start menu, & Windows Explorer.

    All of my shortcuts in the start menu do not have a shield. The only shortcuts that work without the warning are those pinned to the Start Menu or the Taskbar.

    Jim,

    For some reason you may not have the latest Certificate for Microsoft installed in IE. Do you ever get follow on messages about out of date certificates?

    I don't remember any warning about certificates. How do you renew certificates?

    They should show up in Windows Update.
