Hi Tom, I suggest installing WL Mail 2009, I have it on my W7 PC plus Avast as it complements WLM beautifully and it loads faster. http://www.filehippo.com/download_windows_live_mail/ Remove old-new 2011 first entirely.

I would suggest to instead of traveling backwards to 2009 to attempt to uninstall, then re-install 2011. Do you download and install the entire suite? If so do you use the entire Windows Live Essentials suite or just Windows Live Mail? I use WLM, W Live Photo Gallery and W Live Movie Maker and consequently only installed those portions of the suite. If you have the entire suite installed, but only use a portion, only download and install the portions you actually use. Unfortunately I can't check these with Vista because I use Win 7. Perhaps there is a problem with the latest version on Vista.

I tried a repair from control panel then reboot. No change. So I uninstalled the entire suite. Reboot then installed again from Windows Live site. Reboot again. Load Live mail. All of my email and settings were still there and it still crashes each time I close the program. Nothing changed.

Can you give any details about the crash? You should be able to find details if you use the "Check for Solutions" application.

After uninstall, even after a reboot, files have to be removed, hence it reinstalled with your settings etc.

Joe! This is what I find. I was running a microsoft scan from windows live, but my computer was shut down before it was complete. I don't know how to get back to that.

Did you disable your anti-virus during installation of Windows Live Essentials?
Have you tried disabling any email scanning by your anti-virus?
