At the risk of starting a storm: I recently visited the forum "Eileen's Lounge" for the first time. Despite Management's claim, and I quote:

"We're not going to try to make it look or act the same as the old Woody's Lounge or its successor, the Windows Secrets Lounge. We are not going into competition with the WS team, nor are we actively 'recruiting' their members - we simply wanted to recreate the old wooden desks, the worn out but comfy sofas, and the antique coffee stains we all feel comfortable with"

that their forum is not intended to compete with this Lounge, in my opinion, it duplicates the format and purpose of this Lounge pretty closely. Why? Instead of going to "one place" to express views/exchange ideas/learn, one now finds some dilution of data/ideas/information between the two forums (fora?) Somehow, it seems to me that this close resemblance between the two sites has the potential to dilute the impact of both. Or do other Loungers believe that the more sites that one has for debate, the better?

Virtually everything on PC's are pirated in one form or another, whether the item/s are good or bad. Take this forum for example, its the friendliest I know of, but lacks in certain ways compared to 2 others which shall remain anonymus.

I have found that every forum has a niche in that there is a group of knowledgeable people who answer the majority of the questions. This gives each forum a unique and different personality and depth of knowledge on particular areas of computing or what ever subject the forum is there to cover. Finding a comfortable place that answers your questions and fits your personality is the goal of most people who frequent these places online. For others it is a place where they can share their knowledge, be appreciated for it and contribute to the purpose in life that we all need.
I guess this is a long way to say that "The more the Merrier".
Keep up the good work every one, both here and elsewhere, and thank you all for making this such a friendly place. I know how difficult it can be to maintain patience.

I would call the old Woody's lounge the hangout of some of the premier talent in Windows and Office on the web. I was not active on the old lounge other then searching it for answers to Excel and Access VBA questions. From what I have seen of some of the older member's postings I would gather that there were certain perks for deserving members of the old lounge, much like the promised VIP forum of the current lounge. It seems like when the new version of the lounge was brought in all members were demoted to mere mortal status. Even today the promised VIP forum has not been put in place. I think this has caused some dissatisfaction on the part of some of the older users and I am afraid it may cause some of the current crop of talent to also search for other venues.

I hope that Lounge management feels some of this also and treats the issue of getting this thing out of beta with some sense of urgency.

When I look at the content of the Windows Secrets Lounge. I find a lot of the questions and answers at a more amateur level then the old Woody's lounge or the current Eileen's Lounge. (I place myself in this category as a contributer here. I will never have the VBA chops that some of the older users have) This does not take away from the value of the current lounge in any way. There are many more people (users) at this level then there are at the level of the old Woody's lounge.

I would put it this way,
You would not go to the premier surgeon at the best hospital on the world to have a wart removed from your back. The local General practitioner can do the job nicely. Some of the current questions on the lounge can be answered by me (a very generic general practitioner in computer science) and would not interest the highly trained specialist. I would agree that there is a place for both without either taking away from the other......

And if you did go to the "premier surgeon" you would expect to wait a little longer to have the wart removed.

    A couple of thoughts:

    1. The management team of Eileen's Lounge are to a large extent the same people who were responsible for the look and feel of the old Woody's Lounge, so it's not surprising that there would be some similarities. Of course, there are a lot of forums out there that are pretty similar to each other, since they do much the same things.

    2. Considering everything that Eileen did for the old Woody's Lounge, I think it is a brilliant thing that there is a new forum named after her.

    3. If someone takes over your favourite bar and makes huge changes to it, and you had the chance to go and set up a new bar somewhere else that had the best bits of the old one, and some new bells and whistles, why wouldn't you?*

    4. Speaking from an Excel point of view, since that is my main interest, I post on 7 or so forums daily, with a few others occasionally. Each one has different good and bad aspects, and seems to have different areas of expertise in many cases, so for me, it is very much the more the merrier.

Yeah, that's it right there. I can relate to that, so it's not too suprising. It's always unfortunate though (for us) they have alot of talented people.
