I read a local newspaper in the morning on-line and I get this pop-up.
It opens in a new browser window and while not very annoying I would like to stop.

Everything I have tried doesn't seem to work.
I added the site to the block sites in IE but nothing I do seems to stop it.

I also get it when running XP on my dual boot system.

    The popup link is http://www.siteencore.com/cnhi/theda...nch/index.html

It's always for the same local car dealer.

Trying to prevent this has really been a challenge..

    Any suggestions?

Probably the simplest way would be to run HijackThis, then select that item for removal.
Create a fresh drive image before making system changes, in case you need to start over!

The pop up blocker in IE 9 seems more robust than earlier versions. Be advised however that this is a beta version.

If this happens when you click on a page of the newspaper it is probably javascript code being executed that you have authorized by clicking. There is very little you can do about that.

Well, I like the idea about buying a new car...

It doesn't open when I first go to the site.
But, as soon as I click on an item in the menu like 'Local News' it then opens minimized in a new browser window.

I never used 'HijackThis' but I will check it out...

Either way, it's not that annoying but like I said, it's a challenge to try to stop it.

Use Firefox with the AdBlock and NoScript extensions. That combo tends to kill all such annoyances. Chrome with AdBlock might also block that popup, but it all depends on how the add is implemented. Every time I use IE to access any web site other than corporate web sites at work I want to put my foot through the monitor - not only are such ads annoying but they slow some webs sites down to a crawl. I could not believe the performance boost I got on some web sites (pages loading within 3-5 seconds instead of 15-30 seconds) simply by installing AdBlock and NoScript into Firefox.
