Data Entry Crosstab Query? (Access 97)

What I would like to do is create a query which is similar to a crosstab query but allows data entry. This query will be used in a subform.

    Eg: Using Northwind
    Column1 Column2 Column3 Column4
Headings Chai Chang Aniseed Syrup Chef Anton's Cajun Seasoning
    Rows
    Speedy Express 6 5 $20.00 10
    United Package 10 5 $99.00 100
    Federal Shipping 20 100 $50.00 99

The shippers will be a combo box with upto 15 different entries. The products will be upto 6 columns wide & will remain constant for each shipper. The amounts in each column for each shipper will change but will contain zero values. The amounts will be a combination of general number & currency- eg; 3 general, 1 currency.

    What's the best solution?

Crosstab queries and groupby queries in general are not updateable. Furthermore, if you're trying to use comboboxes in a continuous subform, you are going to be unhappy with the results because every time you made a selection in a combobox, it would appear to change the other records listed to the same value or to null, simply because there is really only *one* combobox per field on the continuous form even though it appears that there is one for each row.

    Charlotte,

    Thank you for you reply.

I have created a Data Entry form which includes 4 subforms. My main problem is I want the subforms to look like a pivot table and allow data entry. There will be upto 7 columns and upto 15 different rows(15 companies which could be selected from a lookup table/list box/combo box).

What would be the best solution?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You'll probably need to make the subforms unbound and post the data entry to the tables via code. It's going to take a bit more effort but you should be able to get the effect and functionalit that you need.
