I have a shortcut to Local Area Connection on my desktop, and would appreciate instructions as to how to pin it to the taskbar.

    Thanks and regards,

Thanks Retired Geek, but that was the first thing I tried, and when I right click the shortcut I get no option to pin to taskbar.

    Please advise further.

See if the instructions at How to pin anything to the taskbar help.

    Hello Joe,

Thanks but I'm afraid I was unable to pin the icon to the taskbar following the instructions referred to. When I got to the part where you look for a reference to Local Area Connection there wasn't one.

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Please advise.

    Thanks and regards,
    Roy

It works in the old-style Quick Launch if interested in that. Just about anything works from there and is simple drag and drop setup.

I was finally able to try this myself. Unfortunately, the only thing I can find to pin to the taskbar is "Network Connections". The procedure to that is atNetwork Connections - Create Shortcut - Windows 7 Forums. Sorry, I can't be of more help.

    Ted,

Thanks a lot. I enabled Quick Launch and was able to drag the Local Area Connection shortcut to it. Having said that, after doing so I found that Task Manager no longer works, although I have no idea how the two things can be related. When I open Task Manager now, whether from the taskbar, desktop shortcut or System 32, the only columns displayed are Task and Status, and there is no x to close the window, although closing it is not a problem of course. Could the two things be related, and in any case what can I do to get Task Manager back to normal? (I ran sfc /scannow and no integrity violations were found).

    I would appreciate further advice.

    Thanks and regards,
    Roy
