This just started in the past few days. The local Disk file opens in internet explorer at startup showing contents. Checked msconfig and startup folder. Nothing there that would cause this.

Use a tool such as Autoruns or WhatInStartup - Disable/delete programs at Windows startup to see more comprehensive information about what is starting when you boot the PC.

Note: Autoruns produces a great deal of information. You should concentrate on the Logon tab.

Your situation often occurs when there is an item in a startup location that the system can't find.

Internet explorer or explorer? If its IE, give it a good scrubbing (delete all the caches, reset to defaults, etc.).

If IE is starting up by itself and displaying contents and you didn't do anything, uh ohh, could be a direct or side effect of malware, or even some legitimate program overstepping its bounds.

If its explorer, probably nothing to worry about. One thing to check is in folder options to see if restore previous folder windows at logon is active or not.

Be it Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer, it would also be prudent to run an antivirus & antimalware scan as well, this sort of behavior is atypical.

Thank you all for your help. Tried all three solutions separately. None worked at the time, now working fine. Still don't know what caused it, but problem solved. Thanks again.
