    Hi.
Running XP Pro SP-2. When I attempt to open the folder C:\System Volume Information, I get a message saying "C:\System Volume Information is not accessible. Access is denied."
I am the administrator on this machine - how can I gain access to this folder?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

It appears this is a system folder which is protected by the Windows operating system. This is not a user acccesible folder. I do not believe you can access this folder by any method. Doing so may render your OS unstable, or even non-bootable.

    1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. On the View tab, click Show hidden files and folders.
    4. Clear the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the change.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Double-click the System Volume Information folder in the root folder to open it.

See if How to gain access to the System Volume Information folder helps.

Thank you all for your replies.
Ted, I actually was able to access the folder - see below.
Chowur, I had already done what you suggested, and while this allowed me to see the folder, it did not allow me to access it.
Joe, the link you provided had the correct answer. I needed to add the proper user (in this case, Administrator) under the security tab. Initially, only System was shown under that tab as an acceptable user.
Ted, so far, the machine appears to still be stable (but I haven't made any changes within the folder).
Thanks again to all of you for taking the time to respond.
