I have a 19" monitor connected to a HP tower PC and I want to also use it with a HP notebook PC.
Is there a switch of some kind that would allow the monitor to be used alternatively with both PCs?

one of these might do what you want ....
    Monitor switch
KVM = Keyboard, Video, [s]Monitor[/s] Mouse

    Check out this one ....
    Belkin Flip F1DG102W KVM Switch

Thanks to Terry F for pointing out the typo !!!

A slight slip of the fingers: that should be KVM = Keyboard, Video, MOUSE! It is a simple device that switches all three between computers.

You can get simple switches that only switch the monitor, but a full KVM would seem to be a better way to go. However, on the laptop you will need to enable a keyboard shortcut to switch from the laptop's screen to the external monitor.
