    Array formula (Excel 97)

    I am trying to get a conditional sum using multiple criteria in an excel speadsheet of check information. I want to derive the sum of checks written after a certain date to a certain payee. I created the formula
    =SUM((Date>01/01/1998)*(Payee Name="Cash")*Check Amount) and used Ctrl+Shift+Enter to enter it but i get an error message. I'm new to using array formulas so I know something must be wrong with my syntax. Can anyone help

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Array formula (Excel 97)

    Without testing your whole scenario, start by changing:
    (Date>01/01/1998)
    to
    (Date>DATE(1998,1,1)) [Edited, I omitted second closing paren]
    -John ... I float in liquid gardens
    UTC -7ąDS

    This should work if the range names match (spaces are not permitted in range names), array entered:

    {=SUM((date>DATE(1998,1,1))*(payee_name="Cash")*ch eck_amount)}
    -John ... I float in liquid gardens
    UTC -7ąDS
