can members using thunderbird provide a bit of info?

I am configuring gmail for pop access by thunderbird and got this at the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP.” page:
    “Add a forwarding address
Before you can forward to this address, we need to verify that you have permission from the owner. Enter an email address below and we will then send an email to that address with instructions on how to verify permission.”

This is a new laptop with thunderbird as email client [not configured yet].
So what address am I suppose to fill in? assuming my email address is smith@gmail.com

    Thank you in advance
    Spec

Hi spec, mail can only be forwarded to another mail address. Use same method I gave for WLM only expect more trouble. Check the mail forums for TBird.

i had read google and thunderbird instructions. at the gmail “Forwarding and POP/IMAP.” page, it asked for my forwarding address. [please refer to above copied test from the page] in quotes.
not sure what it meant. do i put the gmail address which i was logged into or what?
since i was logged into my own gmail site, surely i am the owner, isn't it? so why verify again?
if gmail wants my thunderbird account address, not sure what it is. haven't configured the email client yet.

if i understood instructions correctly, i have to config gmail for POP first, then config Tbird for POP manually.

i will struggle with Tbird first. if i can't manage, then i will have to use WLM.
    thanks

spec, you don't forward gmail, all you do is enable POP. Can you post an image of your Gmail settings on the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab. Remember to remove your mail address before posting.

Forwarding is used when you want email that comes to you gmail address sent along to some other address. You don't need that.

The text you posted above says that : 1. Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since Nov 10
That means that you have done what is needed at Gmail.

The next step is to configure TBird.

Instructions for that are here .
    Regards
    John
