    hi,

I have received this laptop, the user just installed AVG free 2011, when she logs in, the computer plays the 'windows start' sound, then just plays the 'windows end sound' and logs off, a helpful hint she gave me: AVG might have found a virus in something called 'wininit'.

    can you help me please?

    thank you.

If you have a Windows XP installation CD try a repair install of XP. See How to perform a Windows XP repair install for details.

There are several free utilities available to recover or reset Windows passwords. See: How to reset Administrator password You can google for others.
