I recently DLed Ashampoo 6.77 FREE.
Requirements state you need IE 7.

I think I have IE6 which is problematic for security on an XP machine.
    I DON'T use Internet Explorer.
    I use another browser.

    1) WHY would a burning program REQUIRE IE 7 when other smaller no-name apps don't require similar ???

    2) Bets on Ashampoo working without IE 7 which I don't feel like installing on my machine ??

I plan on using this mainly for burning music CDs and not movies from internet, etc.

    Thanks in advance.

Some apps are not normal desktop apps but actually run within a browser using combinations of Flash, scripts and other things.

You might also consider CDBurner XP (http://cdburnerxp.se/en/home).

Many companies have used IE components to render a part of their UI. These include McAfee and Intuit, and innumerable small developers. Because these components were part of Windows, it was convenient to borrow them for viewing HTML in a dialog or window, rather than building and distributing a separate browser component. I don't know whether Ashampoo falls into this category, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Have you got any great reason not to install a later version of IE? I too use Windows XP and I have IE8 installed. It works just fine, though I hardly ever use it - I prefer another browser (Opera). But I can't think of reasons not to install IE7 or 8, if Ashampoo wants it to be there. You *don't have to make it your default browser.
