Flag for Follow Up reminder does not always work. (2000)

Hi. How come the reminder for a 'Flag for Follow Up' does not always work? Sometimes a reminder pops up. But, sometimes it does not. I never set a past due reminder. What's happening?

    Hi,
The 'Flag for Follow Up' reminder does not work for emails, which have been moved from the Inbox to another folder. Could that be the reason?

reminders only fire for the deafualt folders - tasks, calendar and inbox.

if the reminder is in a default folder, open outlook from the command line using the /cleanreminders switch.

start menu > run, type the path to outlook.exe (exclosed in quotes) and add /cleanreminders

Hi MJ. Thanks a lot for the advice. One question though, what does the /cleanreminders switch do? Does it clear out all the reminders in the Inbox and other Folders that I've set?

Hi Doris. Thanks for the advice. Yes, I have been moving the flagged messages into another folder. LOUSY program limitation. Any suggestions on how to get around this problem?

it clears the reminder messages in the hidden reminders folder , removing any corrupted reminders - current reminders are recreated. (any reminder that wasn't dismissed or completed will be recreated)

BTW - all the reminders for all folders that can have reminders are stored together in the hidden folder - so all reminders for all those folders are cleared and recreated.

at this time no way around it. You need ot keep them in the inbox or add the messages as tasks after moving to the other folder. (my method)

    Hi Hencab,

lousy limitation, I agree. The workaround is to create a task linked to the mail and set a reminder to the task:
    1. Store the mail in the desired folder
    2. Drag the mail with the right mouse button to the task folder and select "Copy here as task with shortcut" from the popup menu
    3. Set the reminder
The reminder will fire because the task sits in a "default folder", and doubleclicking the shortcut contained in the task's notes area opens your email. BTW: make sure to move the email first, and then to create the task with the shortcut. Otherwise, the shortcut will not find the mail.

Hi MJ. Thank you for replying again. I appreciate it. It seems like creating a task is the best way around it at this time.

Hi Doris. Thanks a lot for replying again and for the GREAT tip on how to 'Copy here as task with shortcut'. I'll be using this.
