How do I insert the total number of pages in the header/footer of a Word 2007 document (using Windows 7) so that the pages will say, for example, Page 1 of 5, 2 of 5, 3 of 5, 4 of 5, 5 of 5?

    Maggie,

There may be an easier way {there certainly was in 2003} but you can accomplish this by selecting Quick Parts -> Field... -> NumPages. See screen capture below.

You can also get to this via: Insert > Page Number > Top of Page or Bottom of Page > scroll down to the 'Page X of Y' group and select one of the three options there.

Note that this will overwrite anything you may happen to already have in the header or footer so take care. If you want want to use this in conjunction with other content you already have in the header or footer, you could insert this into an empty document and then copy just the "Page X of Y" part back into your document.

Thanks guys. Both methods work fine for me now. I just found it hard to find them on Word 2007 after moving over from 2000.
