Find/Replace dialog box changes (Excel XP)

When doing a Find (Edit, Find or CTRL+F), the Find/Replace dialog box has a "Look in"area which allows the user to choose between searching Formulas, Values, or Comments.
However, when I was training this feature today, the group found that when you access the same Find/Replace dialog box by choosing Edit, Replace or CTRL+H, the dialog box only lists Formulas under the Look In area. This happened consistently, regardless of any other Find/Replace settings.
Does anyone have an explanation as to why this would happen, or if it is supposed to work this way?
(I am aware that this can be worked around by using Edit, Find or CTRL+F then choosing the Replace tab.) Thanks for your help.

I have not tried XL XP (2002), but in XL2000 when you select Edit, Replace you do not get an option to Look in anything, other than the default which is the cell contents, wether you regard them as a formula or a value. Edit Replace only applies to cell contents whilst Edit Find will find a value in either the Cell (as a value or formula) or in Cell comments.

If you select Edit Find, enter some text, and select to look in comments, you will find that if you click on the Replace button you no longer can find the text in a comment, even if it does exist.. The problem is that you cannot replace elements of a comment.

Nor can one change the result of a formula of course. So not having that option realy makes sense. Being able to replace (parts of) cell comments would be nice though.

Re: Find/Replace dialog box changes (Excel XP)

My understanding was that Look In (new in XP) is that it would give a user the flexibility to Find or Replace in either the value (what is visible in each cell in the sheet) or in just the formula. However, it looks like that flexibility only extends to using the Look in options to Find, but not to Replace, just like in 2000 and earlier versions. It will Replace in every instance, whether it is in values or formulas.

What is confusing about this is that the Replace dialog box displays the Look in drop-down list with only one choice, giving the impression that there should be more choices.

Thanks for your input on this.

XL2K does not show the lookin dropdown (just like xl5 and xl97)
