My Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista Home Premium SP1, upgraded to SP2, was working well. I had to change the hard disk and a Dell technician came home to change it and reinstall the operating system. The original OEM SP1 Vista was installed.
The computer started without problems and soon I began to download updates The first updates were installed but then it came an installation error:
    Error_Not_found_(0x80070490)
The Update log shows that twice it tried to install KB953838 Security update for Internet Explorer, with errors
Then it tried twice to install KB955430 Software update also with errors.
The update function is now blocked and it canít search for updates.
I have searched information on how to solve this, I installed KB947821 update readiness tool but did not produce any results. I downloaded KB955430 and tried to install it manually with all programs and browser closed but it couldn`t be installed.
The present situation is a Vista Homepremiunm SP1 with IE 8, impossible to update.
    Can any body please help.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Lounge!!

From the information at Windows Update error 80070490 that you need to run a Windows repair installation.

    Well thanks,
I am not such an expert in this field. How do I run a Windows repair?

There are instructions on the linked page.

Note: It is always a good idea to backup any data that is important to you before a major step such as this.
