Text in text boxes (Word 97 sr2)

    Hello,

I am trying to design some buttons using text boxes. The problem I am having is centering the text up and down. Each button will have either one or two lines of text. I obviously want each button to be the same size. I tried to use paragraph spacing before and after to set this, but it is not working the way I thought it would. Any suggestions?

    TIA,
    Laura

Try right-clicking the text box, then choosing "format text box" from the pop-up. Under the "text box" tab, you can set the internal margins of the text box (in your case, you'll want to work with the top and bottom margins to center your text vertically).

However, I'm not sure that using text boxes is the best way for you to create "buttons." Perhaps someone else can supply a better solution for you.

    Hi Laura,

What do you want to use the buttons for? Macrobutton fields? If you are looking for a command button look and do not want to use those from the Control Box then you might try a single cell table:

    - Create a single cell table
    - Set 0 pts space between columns (Table/Cell Height and Width)
    - Set Vertical and Horizontal text alignment to Center
    - Go to Format/Borders and Shading
    - Set a gray shading
    - Select a 1 - 1 1/2 pt border width
    - Apply darker gray border to the bottom and right cell borders
    - Apply a lighter gray (or white) border to the top and left cell borders

Select the cell and press <Alt F3> and add it as an AutoText entry so you can just insert it the next time you need it. Note that you'll probably need to type the name for the AutoText entry and press <F3> to recall it.

Re: Text in text boxes (Word 97 sr2)

Thanks for the suggestions. Actually, I was trying to make the buttons hyperlinks. I ended up changing the size of the buttons so I could fit everything on one line. Then I realized that text boxes don't convert to HTML. Do-oh! I used to know that but had forgotten. So I'm trying something else.

It's still something that is a peeve. I've noticed that when you type a word in a text box and then select the word, the selection box goes way below the word. That, I think, is the problem.
