Our Belkin surge protector has 8 outlets. On it I currently have my laptop, a shredder, an external hard disk, and a desk lamp. We have just purchased a desktop PC which needs to have a monitor and processor plugged in. Can I use the same surge protector? I'm worried about so much on one wall outlet!

The one time I did plug in the new PC, I first disconnected the laptop. Is this sufficient for safe use until we can get a UPS for the PC?

    Thanks for any help!

In my opinion you would be much better off and safer using a APC unit.

The outlet should be alright. You could have all your above mentioned items plugged in without any problems.
Consider taking at least the lamp, and possibly the shredder off if you are unsure.

Thanks for the replies. What is an APC unit? Is that like a UPS?

American Power Conversion (APC) is an UPS vendor.
