My wifes computer (Peggy-Pet Windows 7 32bit) has a Lexmark X5150 printer connected and installed to it. My Laptop (Pops-PC Vista 64 bit )

The printer is shared and prints on Peggy-Pet (cjrX5100EN)

Printer is installed with 64 bit driver Pops PC (cjsX5100EN)

Error on Pops-PC can not communicate with printer

When I add a printer / local printer I get Access is denied

    This is driving me crazy

Peggy-pet sees Pops-PC and vise versa in the network (workgroup) both computers ping each other

That's the reason for your problems, then. There may be other solutions, I must say I never tried it, but one easy way to handle it would be to create an account with the same username and password you use on your computer, on your wife's computer. This should fix it.

A quick way to see if it works, or to get the permissions problem to go away, at least until you shutdown your pc, is to try to access your wife's pc with windows explorer, or simply type \\Peggy-Pet in the Windows 7 search box, just above the Windows Start button. You will be required to type a username and password: use your wife's. You should be able to print, once you do this.

Just a quick note to add the if you choose to Turn Off Password Protect Sharing, in Network and Sharing Center->Advanced Sharing Settings, you may be able to print without the need for authentication or the existence of an account with the same username and password you use on your pc, on the pc that's sharing the printer.

I added Peggy on my Vista and added Pops to Peggy. From Vista laptop I see the printer on Peggy-Pet but can't connect to it, I get this error . . . Windows can not connect to the Printer. Operation can not be completed (error 0X0000000d)

Try add a printer / network printer . The local printer option expects the printer to be connected directly to your Vista computer. The network printer option is to connect to a network printer that has its own IP address, or one that is directly connected to another computer on the network, such as your wife's computer.

Sorry if it didn't work out. Tweaking the registry can be risky.

Do you have file sharing enabled between the computers?
