After I loaded Windows update for 12/14/2010, when running Outlook 2007, having the box checked for 'Require logon using Secure Password Authentication' no longer worked.

Under Tools, Account Settings, double click on an account. I had to uncheck 'Require logon using Secure Password Authentication.'

Once I uninstalled KB2412171, it worked fine.

To uninstall, first close Outlook 2007.

In Windows 7, go to Control Panel, Windows Update, View Update History, Installed Updates, right click on KB2412171, click on Uninstall.

I have not verified this under different OS or Outlook versions.

Also noticed that in a POP3 environment using Gmail, the SPA box was checked after the 12/14 update, thereby disabling Gmail, which requires SPA to be turned off. It took awhile to figure that one out. I've seen it on about a dozen Vista and Win 7 machines running Outlook 2007.
