Again a question from a novice. This may be in the wrong place, "but" can i get some help.
In my new w7, when I first turn my computer on, down the bottom rightI corner I get a little purple "box". if i hover my mouse over it, it tells me it is as mentioned in thread title and all the usual things that you can do with it. Do I want it and if so what is it used for. If i do not want it, how do I "permanetly" get rid of It.
    Thanks in advance David.

It is part of the Home and Student version of MS Office 2007 or 2010.

It is a Note taking program, but has many other sues. I do a lot of Family History research and use it a lot.

Have a look here for the 2010 version

Here is a link to some help on the 2007 version

    Hi David,

As DaveA said, OneNote is a great program. However, if you do not want to use it and want to remove it from your computer, go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, highlight the Microsoft Office installation in the programs list, and click on the 'Change' button. This will start MS Office setup so you can choose to add or remove components. You can remove any Office component you do not want in this manner.

If all you want is to get rid of the icon in the Windows tray, you can simply remove it from your Startup folder.

Personally, I love OneNote. I use it for a lot of stuff, including manual note taking with my tablet PC. It can be used for many purposes and it's an incredibly well thought app. Maybe have a look at what it can do, you may become a fan .

DaveA, best I can do is say it is pre-installed 2007 student.
I have taken all the links and will learn more, thanks.
Gerald S, thanks for the help and will leap on faith to use it.
Rui, thanks for the reply and as said will look into it. If it is as good as you say it might become a friend to my computer use.
