    Slow File Deletion???

I just got upgraded to Win2K. Not bad but when I delete a file it sometimes takes 5-10 seconds. Why so long?

    Thanks
    Thanks,

Is this a local or network deletion?
If local, to the Recycle Bin?

    Re: Slow File Deletion???

    Sorry I should have said.
It's local files or folders (empty ones) and as far as I know there to the recycle bin. I just select in explorer then press delete/enter. The selected file/folder stares at me for an interminable amount of time then quietly disapears. Nothing to tramatic but in NT4.0 it happened imediatly.

    Thanks again.
    Thanks,

This rings a bell but I'm struggling to remember....
Have you any real-time virus scanning in use?
Done a de-frag since the upgrade?

    Re: Slow File Deletion???

We run NAV Corp Edition 7.51 with real time scaning. I haven't defraged but the drive was formated when they installed Win2K and that's just been about 2 weeks. I wouldn't think it would be in that bad a shape yet and it's worked this way pretty much out of the box.
    Thanks,

    Re: Slow File Deletion???

Some AV products are being subjected to a lot of finger-pointing when problems occur these days.
Can you turn of the real-time to test if it is the cause?

Otherwise, try running Task Manager, select Processes, and sort on CPU to see if you can catch any untoward activity.
