Running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and have configured Windows Update to automatically download but not install updates.

When I went to shut down my system before traveling for Christmas break, I was notified that the system was installing 50+ updates.

Does anyone know why this would happen given my Windows Update settings?

I would expect that updates would only be installed if I manually selected them for installation.

    Thanks.

That is the way Windows Update works. When you have fixes downloaded it will automatically install them if a system is rebooted or shut down. If you don't like this you should change your setting to "Notify only". That way you get to choose which updates are downloaded and when.

When you shut down the PC Windows offers to install updates and then shut down. Select plain old shut down and the updates will wait for another day.
