I have an ongoing Problem with my new HP Laptop that neither I nor their techs cannot figure out. It is a HP G62-339WM NOTEBOOK PC running Win 7 Home Premium, 3GB memory

Infrequently (from multiple times a day, to once every few days) my system freezes up for 30-90 seconds, where nothing can be done other than moving the mouse pointer. Once it clears, if I check the Event Viewer, I see a Warning 129 "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued". There is one of these for each 30 second freeze. I have restored/reimaged the laptop to factory default, run the BIOS harddrive and memory tests, updated the drivers and bios, and even sent it to HP service (after hours on the phone with Mumbai and Kentucky(??) technical support. Nothing helps. The HP tech had the problem happen to him while he had the laptop, and like myself researched the web for answers. No one seems to have one. They are still looking into it, having returned by laptop to me

The most common time this happens to me is while listening to music using WMP (it will happen a few minutes into a song when the computer is untouched by human hands) and sometimes in IE8. I cannot make it happen; it seems to have a mind of its own. I'm thinking it might be a voltage or mobo issue, but this is just a guess. I would rather believe it is a software issue, but if it is, I sure can't find it. Any suggestions would be helpful.

What happens if you disable or uninstall WMP?

    I found this: Event 129

Some is available only to subscribers, but here is a portion; "The event ID 129 can be reported from several storport drivers. Event ID 129 is actually a Microsoft port driver event detecting an I/O timeout or a delay in the response with its target devices. It is not a QLogic, HP or Emulex error and it does not indicate that the HBA or HBA driver is at fault. This issue has been found usually as a result of a bad switch cable connection to a storage. This caused a high latency period in access to LUNs, and thus, caused delays in I/O to the point where Exchange could fail. We have also seen similar instances of the Event ID 129 affecting SQL and Oracle applications on the storage. From past cases, the problem can be caused by the switch port itself/Gbic, cable seating on the storage array or the switch, or possible Gbic on the storage array...."

So it says it is NOT an HP error, but a Microsoft issue.

Another solution for one user says this; "...OK so I got a new PSU yesterday and installed it, what do you know the errors have stopped showing in event viewer. strange fix but all seem to be working just fine now. Thanks"

Event ID 129 Reset to device, Post #7

If you have a Power Supply tester I would test that if the previous solution posted by Rui Ribeiro doesn't fix it.

I've seen variations on this theme, however like many who got this possible approach, I do not get "Port tabs" when I go to properties on my controller, so I can't pursue it. Thanks for posting.
