I have a problem such that in Word 2003 and Outlook Express (XP Home) the cursor will occasionally disappear and typed text no longer shows. I can re-insert the cursor using the mouse and continue typing normally. It may be significant that both programs are by Microsoft I have tried both a wireless and a wired mouse and the problem still occurs.

Does that happen on a laptop?

It suggests that another app is stealing focus from Word or OE.

Is this a desktop PC or a laptop?

Does it happen while you are actively using the the apps or after a period of inactivity?

It is a desktop. It happens whilst typing a document or email. I am not a touch typist so I am looking at the keyboard whilst typing; when I look up at the screen I find that the last few words I have typed are missing. Sometimes there could be other applications open but not generally.

I would say that likely the cursor moved, for some reason, to a location where you application loses the focus. It can be either through inadvertent touching of the mouse or because some other app interfered. I would think the former is more likely.

If you are on XP, you can follow the advice given here. It will help if the situation is caused by other apps stealing the focus.

Thanks. I will watch what I do with the mouse whilst typing and also download tweak UI and do the suggested modification.

You're welcome . Hope it will help with your problem.

It's rather a common problem, I'd say, but most frequent with laptops, as touching the touchpad while typing is a frequent occurrence. I end up disabling my touchpad most of the times I am typing and something like that occurs.

    Regards
