I just updated my Secunia to the 2.0 version. I have a habit of immediately going in to the system configuration utility and turning off any newly installed programs. My question here is, Will unchecking the Secunia box in the system configuration cause Secunia to stop working automatically? And, is it a bad idea for me to do this?

    Hi,

Yes, if you uncheck it, it won't run automatically. You will have to rely on your memory to execute it manually. The only downside to it is that f you forget to execute it regularly, it won't alert you to possibly insecure programs as soon as it could.

You could always use Windows scheduler to run Secunia periodically.

I prefer to run it manually, otherwise it's just another backgrownd process consuming resources.
The only feature of PSI I find usefull is the ability to identify outdated or insecure versions of known programs in my apps list.
It will be your preference though, either way is fine.

I have to agree with Clint. I also stop almost everything running in the background as all these apps and processes just slow things down. I use PSI and FileHippo Update Checker manually on a regular basis to check for updates. It takes just seconds and helps keep my PC "lean and mean".
