Now all the forums are marked as unread. Even stuff that has not had any activity since I last visited.

@joeperez: This is likely a symptom of the change I made to vBulletin. If you visit the homepage of the forum and click Mark Forums Read that should make older stuff marked out.

This should be fixed now for all forums; for some strange reason that was the default sort order and field for most forums.

    1. The icon for read posts is a closed envelope and the icon for unread posts is an open envelope. Surely that's back to front?
It would also be nice to have the unread envelope a brighter colour to make it even easier to pick out.

    2. I can't see the button to mark all posts read. Is it missing?

    cheers, Paul

We are collecting the items you are reporting and are working to continue updating the Lounge.

@mccornwall, the issue you are experiencing should be resolved now.
Thank you. Can you tell me what you did? I'd like to relay the fix to the forum admins over at bikeforums.net so their site works correctly as well. I'll check it out over the next few days as unread posts accumulate.

For issue #1, over at bikeforums they changed the envelope to a little cyclist icon and unread ones had a green plus sign superimposed over it. Very easy to pick out on the page...

Well, this is all a surprise to me.
I have no idea where my thread notifications are and is it still possible to subscribe for email notices of new threads being posted in the forums?

If so, how do I do it because I can't seem to find any options for it..

    Thanks

Those of us with vision deficiency (mine's with colours, as is around 10% of potential Lounge readers) would certainly prefer some obvious options to change the colour schemes.

In vBulletin there is an option for tracking unread posts. The default method is via a cookie on the user's system and this is what results in the behavior you see. The other two options store the read threads in the database on a per user basis. This is more intensive but for a forum this size it shouldn't have an impact. For our much larger communities this is another story.

The actual setting name in the vBulletin AdminCP:
Settings -> Options -> General Settings -> Thread/Forum Read Marking Type
    • Inactivity/Cookie Based
    • Database (no automatic forum marking)
    • Database (automatic forum marking)

    Email notifications thread.
Use the Go Advanced button to reply then scroll down to change your subscription settings.
Not ideal but it was all I could find at the time.

You can also change your default option in the User Control Panel -> General Settings - Default Thread Subscription Mode
    • Do not subscribe
    • Through my control panel only (default)
    • Instantly, using email
    • Daily, using email
    • Weekly, using email

Thanks Matt, but we used to have one for each subject. Marking the whole site read kinda defeats the purpose of showing new posts.

    cheers, Paul

Double Doh! It won't let me post less than 10 characters.

    cheers, Paul
