Thumbs down I agree with poor ranking system

I also do not like the ranking system. Those of us who have posted many answers have the same ranking as persons with many fewer posts. I was a Gold Lounger and working well toward my Platinum rank.

Plus, what happened to the older Thumbs Up ratings. I was proud of my 75 Thumbs Up points, now they are gone.

RR/Ted - Thanks for pointing that out.
Is there a FAQ on what criteria is used for new Ranking System?

Does that mean "Senior Member" equals "Senior Citizen" ?
The three of us show a "Join Date" of Dec 2009 !!!

I'm not sure. I have platinum blond (I never say gray) hair (what's left of it) and beard. Does that count as "Senior"?

Mercyh, thanks for the info. I'm not against change, but it has to make sence without penalizing those that have spent the time building up their reputations. The new Lounge is working somewhat poorly in my humble opinion with many failures. I do not appreciate the loss of the 75 thumbs up points I had gained through hard work.

I just registered at Eileen's Lounge and am awaiting administrator activation. I will still check in here, but may just spend considerable time there.

It is unfortunate that the owners here do not seem to realize that the value of a forum is in the free contributions by the masses. This is the second verse of this tune. The first was when the change was made from woody's lounge to windowssecrets. At that time the "old" contributers were left out of an exclusive area that was also promised on the windowssecrets lounge based on thumb scores but never materialized. Some of "them" then created a new forum with the same feel as the old one and where they could keep things the way they liked them.

Now we are the "old" crowd left with dust in the mouth.

I will say that I think you "Ted" had the all time thumb record though

I think the board is using the default User Title settings. It looks easy enough to re-create the ones we had before, but I'm just going by this user manual page:

    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/user_titles

Converting Thumbs up to Thanks probably is a more arduous process, if it is possible. "Thanks" is an add-on to the board software, and I don't know anything about how it stores data.

It appears as though there are only a couple of category of members, Junior, Senior and Moderator. The cutoff between Junior and Senior is very low. What happened to the VIP category that the Thumbs Up were supposed influence the choice of? I just hope this latest change does not have the undesired effect of pushing all the old timers with dust in out mouths away, because that would be too bad.

For now I will visit both forums as time permits. I only hope the problems with this beta version are solved rapidly.

Fed up being described as a Junior Member, having been using computers for 50 years, been a pioneer in 'electronic data processing', office automation, programming, system analysis and design and worked with mainframes, minis and micros. Oh, yes, and I was a fan of WOPR and a member of Woody's Lounge. The designation Junior Member is more hurtful than the arrows in the back. The simple answer is not to have rankings at all or minimum classification. What is wrong with Member and Moderator... or just identify moderators?

AC, A belated Welcome to the Lounge.

Back when this thread was started, we had JUST switched from the old Lounge to the New Lounge. There were many changes that took some time to get accustomed to. Over time some other changes in ratings have been developed, and continue to be developed. We have a couple of new Administrators, two new categories of Super Moderator and Lounge VIP. These categories, as well as other items are continually undergoing evaluation and change. The Junior Member rating strictly goes by the number of posts, I believe 100 posts gets a member promoted to Senior Member (if this number is incorrect I'm sorry, and please someone correct me. Perhaps I'm just having a "Senior Moment" and I'm NOT talking about the number of posts.) I believe this is one way to encourage members to continue to post questions and more importantly answers to questions. Based on your experience I am sure you could provide very valuable answers to many of the questions posed here.

I hope this answers your question and satisfies your concerns. Please continue to make valuable contributions to the Lounge. Thank you again.

    Ted

    Thanks, Ted,

I just want to be a Member, like Susan Bradley (the only one I've noticed) and receive the respect my 84 years and 50 years of computer experience warrant! I don't believe calling people Junior Members encourages them to post more, but just offends them.

As far as contributing to forums is concerned I fear that the traffic is rather one-way as the bulk of my computing experience was in the days when computers worked for us. Now we work for them. Sometimes I feel that every morning brings a new problem and I spend more time housekeeping, protecting and fixing my desktop, laptop, netbook and smartphone than doing useful work.
