    space on page

    Hi,

I use Word 2007 in Win Xp Sp3. I find that Word often creates a space many lines long on a page for no apparant reason. I'd be grateful for help.

    Good luck, Dan S

Can you post a document that demonstrates this? There are plenty of reasons why a space might appear in your text so we need to see an example.

The most common reason is having keep conditions in effect. If the "keep together" (and "keep with next") options in the paragraph format of the paragraph(s) after the extra space is turned on, Word will attempt to keep them together (and/or with the following paragraph).

There are a couple of common reasons this may be happening:

In Page Setup, Layout Tab, the Vertical Alignment has been changed to CENTRE instead of TOP or
One (or more) paragraphs have Space Above or Space Below set to a high value.

Many thanks to all. I solved the problem by changing my style. I went to "change style", selected my style, clicked on the down arrow, chose "modify style", then "format" then "paragraph", then checked "keep with next". That did it.
    Good luck, Dan S
