prevent forward of specific e-mail (Outlook 2000)

Our PA says that in a previous job, they had a way to mark an e-mail, so that the recipient couldn't forward it on. Is there such a facility in Outlook or in the Exchange Server?

no, not natively. there are tricks you can use, like using utilities like disappearing mail (<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.disappearing.com>http://www.disappearing.com</A>)

There are a couple of other tricks. While composing a message you can go to:

    1) View | Options and set an expiration date.
    2) Tools | Forms | Design This Form | Actions Tab. From here you can disable Forward, Repy, Reply all.

Both these require the user to set things up. They could be coded. Perhaps that's what you had before?

expire may not work in all situtations (if psts are used) and result is the expired message being deleted in the situtations where it will work. it can be forwarded until it expires.

custom forms will only work if the other side is also using outlook - also, if off the network, the forms definiation needs included.

We don't have Exchange. Expired messages show in the Inbox in a light gray with strike-through on the subject. I don't think Outlook deletes them automatically. For the purpose of letting people know the information is obsolete, I think it's a useful cue. To prevent copying/forwarding, completely useless.

There was a discussion of putting "web bugs" in mails or documents, several months back, to track forwards, but actually preventing it probably requires a plug-in of some kind.
