Unhappy Cannot resize hard drives in Win 7 64bit

    Hi All
When i enter disk management to shrink size of a hard drive to make a new partition, I get an error as follows

'The service cannot be started either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.'

Virtual disk manager is set to auto in services and is running. I do not know what it means re: no enable devices.
    Can anyone help Please?

Try using a 3rd party partition manager such as Partition Wizard Home Edition.

    I would run sfc /scannow

Thanks for your reply's tedshemyers & BBearen
Have already got partition wizard and works fine. Ran scannow but found nothing and did not fix problem.
What I want is win 7 to work like it used to and allow me to resize partitions without errors.
There must be some setting or some thing wrong as it did used to allow me to format and resize disks before.
Would like to know what it means by 'no enabled devices associated with it' means.

I vaguely recall having this error at one time and it was due to a bad USB drive connected to the system. Unpluging that USB drive fixed it. Also, if you have any virtual ISO mounting software running, disable it.
