scroll button appears - how did that happen?i

i used a ASUS netbook sporadically- with windows homepremium

occasionally while typing i find a scroll button appears on the screen. i have no idea how it happens. when it appears the page scrolls up or down. this button(?) if that is the word for it... looks like a circle with a arrow pointing up and an arrow pointing down.

i seem to also have problems with the touch pad but that is for another post. i just do not know how to use it correctly.

    thanks for your help.

    Stephen,

This icon is usually associated with clicking the Wheel on a mouse while the cursor is on a scroll bar. It locks the scrollbar so moving the mouse scrolls the page. My guess is that you're doing the equivalent action with your scrollpad. The Esc key will make it go away!

    Stephen,

Many touch pads have taping actions that are the same as pressing a mouse button and some have scroll bars along their edges. Take a look at the documentation for your touch pad to see if this is so in your case.

I agree; it's probably the edge of the touchpad (loosely defined) that gives you the scrollbar function. Took me a year to figure this out.
    Go figure.
