Windows can't open this file........ Outlook 2007

    Outlook 2007 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 64 bit.
When clicking on an embedded link (in an email) to a website, message appears "Windows can't open this file. I select IE8 to be the default program and it does take me to the site. If I try it again, I get the same prompt. I have configured default programs to IE8 and we still get prompted for every link.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

Is that the entire error message or might there be some additional information?

When you open the message, does an "infobar" at the top say that links are blocked?

Edit: If you have another browser installed, you might want to toggle the default browser. Change to the third party browser, and then change back to IE. This will rewrite the registry settings for how to handle URLs.
