    Traffic lights in Excel

Is there a way to create coloured traffic lights in Excel 2003 to show simply and graphically items that are progressing satisfactorily (green) items that are progressing but need attention (orange/amber) and items that have/are not progressing (red).

That can be done. Do you have some sample data and some samples of results you want?

    Conditional formatting

As a variation to the traffic light, have you thought about colouring the cell(s) as red/yellow/green using the conditional formatting feature of Excel?

Use a search engine of your choice to search for the term "stoplight chart" or "excel dashboard" for examples of color-coded status displays. They may give you ideas of what you want the report to look like and how to build your worksheet.
