I am back with a query on the graph that you created for me. I was trying to re-create the graph for another set of data. While I am able to create the graph I am unable to get the labels above the boxes.
I looked at the graph you have created and notice that when you right click on the graph and select "chart options" under the "data labels" tab you have a check box for "Automatic Text".
However I am not getting this check box while creating the graph. Can you let me know why is this happening. And how do I get the labels above the box.
If I recall correctly, in pre-XL2007, the alignment for the datalabels is not in chart options. Dbl-click a datalabel and you should get the format datalabels dialog. This is where you align the labels. Since the datalabels are not the X, Y, or legend value, but a range, I used the chart labeler addin (http://www.appspro.com/Utilities/ChartLabeler.htm). If you don't want to use VBA, you can add a data a datalabel (any kind) then dbl-click each individually, go to formula bar, and enter text or enter an equal sign (=) and point to the cell you want for a live reference.
I happened to see a Box and Whisker Graph on the net. I did try creating one and was successful. However I am unable to put the existing ranges on the graph. Are you able to help me in creating one similar to the attached picture, using the existing data in excel.
Could you elaborate on what you want/need exactly. Putting the salary data into box-whiskers is relatively straightforward, but you also have The grade data salary vs points, the Company midpoints, and survey midpoints which was the original scheme. Do you want 2 charts or some type of "overlay"? The way the data is most of the Box whiskers will be "masked" by the huge salaries in the higher grades.
