    Unable to change file association

I am trying to change a file association, specifically .rar. I tried using Default File Associations, but after I search for and select the program I want to open this extension(7Zip), it does not appear as a choice in the next screen for me to select it. Can I somehow just delete this file extension from memory, then try to open a .rar file and then tell Win7 to use 7Zip?

Try Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations. You should be able to set app associations for files here.

Open the 7-Zip file manager. Go to Tools | Options | System and select the file types for which you want 7-Zip to be the default handler.
